Frequently Asked Questions
My aircon isn't cooling properly. What's causing it? | The most common causes are a dirty filter or coil restricting airflow, low refrigerant (gas) from a slow leak, a faulty capacitor or compressor, or a fan coil unit that hasn't been serviced in a while. A standard servicing clears blocked coils and filters; if the unit is still warm after that, it usually points to a gas leak or component fault that needs a technician to inspect and quote for repair. |
My aircon is leaking water. Is this serious? | Leaking is usually caused by a choked condensate drain pipe, a cracked drain pan, or ice build-up on the coil (often from low gas or restricted airflow) melting and overflowing. It's rarely an emergency, but it should be looked at quickly — left alone, it can damage ceilings and walls. Routine chemical washing clears most drain blockages before they cause leaks. |
Why is my aircon making a loud or unusual noise? | Rattling or vibrating noises are often loose mounting brackets or panels; grinding or buzzing usually points to a worn fan motor or bearing; a hissing sound can indicate a refrigerant leak. Noise is one of the clearer signs a unit needs professional attention before the underlying issue causes a breakdown. |
Why does my aircon smell musty or unpleasant? | Musty odours are typically caused by mould and bacteria build-up on the evaporator coil and inside the unit, often from moisture that hasn't fully drained or a filter that hasn't been cleaned. A chemical wash removes this build-up at the source, rather than just masking the smell. |
How often should I service my aircon? | For homes, we recommend a standard servicing every 3 months and a full chemical wash every 6–12 months, depending on usage and the environment. Commercial and office systems generally need more frequent servicing given longer daily run times — we'll recommend a schedule after inspecting your setup. |
What's the difference between chemical wash and regular servicing? | A standard servicing covers a general clean of the filter and visible components to keep the unit running smoothly between deeper cleans. A chemical wash is a more thorough process that dismantles the fan coil and washes the internal components with chemical solution, removing built-up dirt, mould, and bacteria that a standard clean can't reach. For units significantly underperforming, a chemical overhaul goes further still, restoring the system closer to like-new efficiency. |
